Shoco Industrial Solutions
In most cases, to naked eye oil appears to be a clean clear fluid with a yellowish-green or golden-brownish tint. Since the lower limit of human vision is 40-50 microns, the harmful 1 to 10 micron microgrit is not visible. Shoco’s Industrial Solutions Laboratory specializes in examining oils for cleanliness at the micro level and is the designated certifier for all of Chevron’s ISOCLEAN Certified Lubricants.
Shoco’s Industrial Solutions Laboratory is equipped to perform the following testing:
-

Shoco Premium Diesel Program
Shoco Premium Diesel provides vital lubrication to the fuel pumping system, as recommended by the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association, to prevent premature wear on fuel pumps, transfer systems, and injectors. Our premium diesel also helps protect against corrosion and enhances the fuel’s cetane number, ensuring smoother engine operation and improved performance.
Shoco Premium Diesel enhances the fuel’s low temperature operability by lowering the cold filter plugging point and preventing the formation of ice crystals, ensuring reliable performance even in the harshest conditions.
Performance Features
- Contains detergent to clean and maintain fuel systems, including modern high-pressure, common rail injected (HPCR) systems (Cummins L-10, Peugeot XUD-9, Peugeot DW-10)
- Helps reduce emissions
- Restores lost fuel economy
- Improves lubricity to meet Truck and Engine Manufacturer’s Association recommendations
- Boosts cetane number
- Increases power
- Decreases fuel consumption
- Lowers fuel pour point by up to 30°
- Reduces cold filter plugging point by up to 30°
- Cloud 10 – keep at 10 degrees
- Minimizes or eliminates the need for kerosene dilution to reduce pour point
- Ultra low sulfur diesel conatins less than 15ppm sulfur allowing up to 60% more water to accumulate in fuel tanks
- The refining process for ultra low diesel fuel results in a higher wax content effecting the fuels pour point and cold filter plug point
- Inhibits wax crystal growth
- Prevents ice crystal formation in tanks and fuel lines, and helps remove normal amounts of water
- Kills bacteria and fungus
- Dual-Phase – effective in both diesel fuel and water
- Recommended by OEMs
- 81% active chemistry for a more effective kill
WATER CONTAMINATION TO ONE TENTH OF ONE MICRON

Low Temperature Operability
- Refineries – PPD
- Terminals through remainder of the distribution network – Cold Flow Improvers
- CFIs inhibit wax crystal growth
- All ULSD is not equal

Water Handling
- Atmospheric storage
- AST and UST
- Rising and Falling Temperatures
- Air Ingress and Egress
- Condensation
- Accumulation
- Corrosion
- Ethanol – phase separation
- Icing
- Water shedding (Emulsifier)
- Keep it in solution
- Move it on through the system
- Cause it to come out of the solution (Demulsifier)
- AST – Drain it off
- UST – Pump it out
- Keep it from freezing (Icing Inhibitor)

Detergency
- Improves combustion
- Restores lost power and fuel economy
- Reduces emissions
- Improves engine performance

Fuel Stability
- Decrease the insolubles and gums in fuel
- Prevent the formation of peroxides
- Increase the storage life and maintain fuel quality

Lubricity
- Severe hydrotreating is used to remove sulfur during the refining process
- Hydrotreating removes naturally occurring components that provide lubricity to diesel fuel
Lubricity is measured as a function of wear
- ASTM D6079 – High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR)
- ASTM D975 requires wear scar diameter of ≤ 520

Fuel Corrosivity
- Ferrous Metal Corrosion
- NACE
- Fuel Systems are susceptible to water contamination and air entrainment
- Corrosion Inhibitors, in general, are polar materials and form protective barriers on metal surfaces

Shoco Industrial Solutions Laboratory
The lab provides the certification of ultra clean lubricants that are proven to benefit customers by reducing their maintenance costs and eliminating unpredicted failures further helping customers extend equipment life.
The laboratory specializes in examining oils for cleanliness at the micro level and is the designated certifier for all of Chevron’s ISOCLEAN Certified Lubricants. Key benefits include reduced down time losses, lower equipment wear, longer equipment life, and longer lubrication life.
Laboratory Instruments
- LaserNet Fines (Particle Count): Measures particle size and concentration to ensure fluid cleanliness and adherence to manufacturer specifications
- Patch Test (Microscopic Visual Analysis): Identifies wear debris, dirt, and other contaminants to assess equipment condition
- Viscosity (40°C & 100°C): Confirms the lubricant’s ability to flow and maintain thickness across varied operating temperatures
- Karl Fischer (Water Content): Detects water contamination that can lead to corrosion and lubricant breakdown
- RDE-AES (Elemental Analysis): Determines wear metals, additives, and contaminants for equipment monitoring
- FT-IR: Evaluates oil oxidation, degradation, and additive health
- Foam Testing: Measures tendency to foam, which can induce cavitation in high load systems
- Varnish Potential: Assesses varnish formation that can impact system performance, causing erratic operation of servos and control valves
- Demulsibility (Water Separability): Checks how well a lubricant separates itself from water
Diesel Fuel Testing
- Cloud Point: Determines temperature at which wax crystals begin to form.
- Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP): Identifies the lowest temperature at which fuel can flow through filters.
- Pour Point: Establishes the lowest temperature at which fuel remains in a flowable liquid phase
- Karl Fischer (Water Content): Detects water contamination that can lead to corrosion and lubricant breakdown
- Biologic Testing: Tests for presence of bacterial, fungal, and microbial growth which can lead to clogging of the fuel system
- Diesel Cleanliness Testing: Verifies particulate levels to protect injectors and fuel system components
- LaserNet Fines (Particle Count): Measures particle size and concentration to ensure fluid cleanliness
- Patch Test (Microscopic Visual Analysis): Identifies wear debris, dirt, and other contaminants to assess equipment condition
- FT-IR: Monitors fuel oxidation and water content
